    1-st Conjugation in the Present Tense: Part I

    This tutorial is designed for the beginning level of proficiency of learners of Russian. It begins with a review of essential vocabulary (книга, журнал, уроки, музыка), and personal pronouns, followed by the introduction to the concept of “conjugation” giving examples in English (go-goes). Then we demonstrate the patterns of conjugation and verb-formation in Russian. We use Regular Russian Verbs of 1-st Conjugation with vowel stem, such as делать, читать, слушать. Next we include “Let’s practice” section to practice and exercise the targeted material. This tutorial is accompanied by an exercise and a Quiz created in Hot Potatoes.

    This tutorial is designed for the beginning level of proficiency of learners of Russian. It begins with a review of the vowel stem verbs covered in part 1 of this tutorial, continuing the introduction to the consonant stem of the 1st Conjugation verbs demonstrating the patterns of verb-formation in Russian.  After we introduce the main concept, we review some essential vocabulary and possessive pronouns and practice the concept of “consonant stem conjugation” with the verbs писать (to write) and  жить (to live). Next we include “Let’s practice” section to practice and exercise the targeted material. This tutorial is accompanied by two exercises created in Hot Potatoes (see below).

    Students practice using the reflexive possessive pronoun “свой” in a gap-fill exercise. They will read a story and may also listen to voice-recorded avatars who speak some of the lines. Whenever a possessive pronoun appears in the story, the student must choose the correct pronoun from a set of choices. Upon completion, the exercise tells them what percentage of their answers is correct. They may then return to change their answers and check again. .
