Gestalt

This project focuses on creating 2D compositions using Gestalt Theory. The five main theories I focused on were Symmetry, Figure-ground, Closure, Proximity, and Continuation. These compositions were all created in Adobe Illustrator.

For the first composition (Symmetry), I used three squares in a row to create a symmetrical relationship. For the second composition (Figure-ground), I changed the placements of the squares to show the relationship between figure and ground to offer a dynamic and ambiguous feelings. For the third composition (Closure), the image can lead us to automatically complete the incomplete forms and lines in between the squares. It is supposed to look like two or more buildings. For the fourth composition (Proximity), since people tend to view close elements as a whole, I put nine squares together to make one whole figure without separation. For the fifth composition (Continuation), I was inspired by raindrops and radiation. I want it to show a diffusive feeling from the top left to the bottom right.
