YOUTH DEVELOPMENT

The goals of our youth programming are straightforward. We promote good health, school preparedness and school success, and the development of life skills. We pursue a multitude of value and asset based methods and curriculums to accomplish these goals. But perhaps the greatest secret to our success is the consistent and long-term nature of our youth programming. We have teens in programs today that started in our preschool co-op a dozen years ago.

Youth Development Summary:

Programs based on asset building

In school mentoring—provides side by side support to children from the neighborhood at their school, helps connect parents to school staff, and encourages youth to participate in school extracurricular activities

After school and evening programs for students K-12: include skill building, recreation, tutoring, and pre-employment programs.

Enrichment groups address specific areas, such as music, sports, or the arts. Groups are also structured to meet needs of a particular segment, such as young women, young black men, etc.

Parenting support available to families with school aged children

Youth programs are currently supported by the Community Juvenile Justice Council, the AmeriCorps “Youth Connections” program, F.L.I.G.H.T.  (Future Leaders in Gear for Higher Training), Department of Public Health, Johnson County Decategorization, and the Clear Creek Amana School District.
