Our Clear Creek site began services in the western part of Johnson County in February, 1996. Communities served include Tiffin, Western Hills Mobile Home Park, and Oxford. We currently serve the catchment area covered by the Clear Creek Amana School District.
PROGRAMS AND ACTIVITIES
Child development includes home visits with parents of children birth to five and providing support to in home daycare providers.
Youth development includes in school mentoring and after school tutoring and recreation with middle school students. Grade school students attend tutoring two days a week at the Springmier Community Library at the high school in Tiffin. A number of parents also use this time to access computers and check in with Neighborhood Center staff. We also provide an after school program weekly at Western Hills.
Family development includes connecting families with resources. Part of the goal of the Clear Creek site is to bring resources “to the neighborhood”. This includes distributing food donations in Tiffin and at Western Hills once a week, assisting with access to the Crisis Center Food Bank, supporting a twice monthly medical clinic provided by Family Planning, Free Medical Clinic, and County Department of Public Health.
Community development includes a very active Neighborhood Advisory Council. The Clear Creek area is experiencing lots of growth so a major focus of the Council has been community building through family nights and special events (such as a community Easter egg hunt) and has worked on the partnership that led to the Springmier Community Library. Because the resources for Clear Creek programs are very limited and funding has been cut, Council members have been involved in fundraising and helped plan programs that the community will really support. They also have volunteered for programs to allow Neighborhood Centers to maximize the limited staff at the site. Neighborhood Centers continues to work on community partnerships as a path to sustainability.
