Tadeu Coelho

"Like a modern Pied Piper, flutist Tadeu Coelho led the audience into strange and wondrous realms Saturday evening...Coelho evoked golden tones from his golden instrument while setting a high standard. Coelho's concert revealed a thrilling virtuosity...Coelho's playing never failed to project an underlying lyricism and rhythmic grace. The evening's most demanding work, Andre Jolivet's "Chant de Linos" (Song of Lions) of 1944, sent Coelho racing off, like a superb athlete finally let loose in an Olympic round. It proved a splendid vehicle for displaying the breadth and clarity of his vision. He reveled in its drama, exploiting the wide emotional play that ranged from dignified lament to flights of metallic screams. Though Coelho's big technique allows him seemingly to skip through fiendish difficulties, he never indulged in idle virtuosity. What came through most in the entire program was the consistent clarity and musicality of his playing, along with his liquid rhythmic sense." Albuquerque Journal, Tuesday, October 21, 1997
