A native of Minnesota, I have studied and worked overseas, from Europe and Africa to Asia and Latin America. An MA graduate from the University of Iowa School of Journalism, I've worked for a decade as an award-winning journalist covering a wide spectrum of national and international issues that carried me to all corners of the U.S., to the war-torn Middle East, and to Latin America. I’ve taught or co-taught a wide array of courses in communication studies, multimedia journalism, language and literature, and cultural studies at four different colleges/universities in the Midwest. I have worked as a freelance videographer and writer for several media outlets including Phoenix Television of Hong Kong and the Chicago Tribune. I am currently the chair of the Journalism Program at Knox College in Galesburg, Ill., and have also served as the co-director of the Multimedia Journalism and Mass Communication program at Augustana College in Rock Island, Ill. I recently completed my Ph.D. in Spanish at the University of Iowa.
