The world’s championship series between Chicago
and Sioux City
begins this afternoon at Evans park. This is the
important event in the base ball annals of the city and is dividing the
attention of the northwest with the Corn
Palace. The management
expects big crowds and has made arrangements to accommodate them.
The game today will be called at 3:30. The batting order is

May
Be Declared Winner.
Washington, Oct. 4 –
Special: Parties on the inside say tonight that Chicago will be awarded the National league pennant.
Boston has not
as yet shown up the consent of the other clubs which she had promised. There is
a general feeling here among parties who stand close to Secretary Young that
Boston will quietly drop out of sight and allow Chicago the pennant without a
contest.

Base
Ball Notes.
Every lady will attend the ball game today at Evans park.
Every train is bringing people who come to witness the ball
games.
Vickery and Schriver, Ehret and Earle will be tomorrow’s batteries.
Anson will have to keep the Colts playing ball if they pull
down more than three games from the Huskers.
The Chicago club will reach Sioux City this morning
at 7 o’clock. They will stop at the Wales
hotel, corner Tenth and Pearl
streets.
The base ball parade will start from the corner of Iowa and Fourth streets at 1 P.M. sharp, headed by the K.
P. band and followed by the Wayne
band.
Little Cooney, who will play short for Chicago today is well
known among the base ball patrons of Sioux City. He is a clever short stop and
a first class all around base ball player.
St. Louis Globe-Democrat: It
is to be hoped that St. Louis will not be
slighted when it comes to selecting cities in which to play one of those
world’s championship games between Sioux City
and Boston. We
would not miss one of those thrilling contests for all the gold of conquering
heroes.
Prof. Gould, of Rock
Island, will make a balloon
ascension from the base ball grounds just before the game. The professor will
drop when 3,000 feet high and will try to alight in front of the grand stand.
Bleachers that will seat 6,000 more people have been added to the ball park
accommodations.
Every school boy knows Capt. Anson by reputation. This is
the first chance the people of Sioux
City and the northwest in general have had to see Anse play ball. Capt. Anson will hold down first base for
the Chicagos
today. To say that there will be a crowd at the ball park to greet him is
putting it mildly.
The fans are breaking their necks over the difficult problem
of whether Chicago
can take more than three games from the Huskers. It will be a pitchers’ battle
today. Billy Hart is in great condition-in fact, he
always is-while his opponent, Hutchinson, who has the best record of any
pitcher in the country, will feel himself pretty sure with the Huskers.
However, Hutch may find quite an aggregation of hustlers among the home boys.
It will be a game for blood.
