● The difference between a white rhino and a black rhino is the black rhino's movable upper lip.
● They are usually dark yellow brown to dark brown or dark gray and not actually black!
● Adult black rhinos usually live alone, but can live in goups of up to twelve rhinos.
● Mother and daughters can sometimes stay together for long periods of time.
● They like to eat woody twigs and legumes. (What's a legume? Think peas and peanuts!)
● They can live up to be almost 50 years old. Almost as old as your grandparents!
● There are four types of black rhinos: Southern-central, South-western, East African, and West African.
● The black rhino and the yellow-billed oxpecker have a symbiotic relationship (they help eachother live). This is why Remy and Olvia are such good friends! Do you have a best friend?
● European hunters were responsible for early declines.
● In the early 1900's, they would hunt rhinos for fun :(.
POACHING:
● Black rhinos started to get poached for their horns heavily in the 1970's.
● This is still the main threat for remaining wild black rhinos.
