Ello results from the curiosity of enlarging the details of the tiles from the Alhambra Palace in Granada, Spain. The geometry of the tiles’ motifs was simplified and a split-complementary color scheme was used to emphasize the visual reference. Ello was built with plastic sheets hung from the ceiling, allowing spotlights placed in asymmetrical locations to create tints of the existing hues.
Ello was installed at the University of Iowa Museum of Art for the School of Art and Art History Faculty Exhibition in 2007.
