I am interested in the continual counterpoint between biogeography and microevolution. My research program is unified by the underlying question of how these forces interact to form and maintain biodiversity, which is crucial to understanding conservation priorities as well as diversification patterns.

As a phylogeographer and molecular phylogeneticist, I use DNA to answer fundamental questions about the origin, maintenance, and distribution of biodiversity across temporal and spatial scales. My research is inherently specimen-based, and I combine field work with molecular genetics using both new and historical specimens and associated data.
