As a doctoral student in the Language, Literacy & Culture program in the College of Education, I am studying the ways that technology may influence tutorials in a writing center. I tutor students face-to-face and through online instant messenger. I am interested in learning how the tutorial process can help shape students' information-literacy skills and how computers become mediating tools in writing center tutorials. Additional interests include the ways that students develop conceptions of identity in online discussion forums.

In addition to being a full-time graduate student who works in the university's main writing center, I recently taught Approaches to Teaching Writing. I also work in Campus Technology Services, where I administer the Master Calendar, maintain web pages on how to use the university's Files@Iowa electronic storage service, and develop online documentation for departments who purchase laser printers. Previously, I was a Student Instructional Technology Assistant who helped instructors to integrate technology into their teaching. I also coordinated the IT support for the Offices of the President and Provost.
