Research Interests

      I have several interests regarding speech production, but I am particularly interested in how emotions effect speech production.  I plan to integrate the knowledge and experimental techniques of affective science with speech science.  One of my initial goals is to see if there is a relationship between an individuals temperament and how emotional arousal effects different elements of their speech production.  I would also like to extend the research to try to identify the underlying neural activity that may be associated with the effects of emotional arousal on speech production.  Once this kind of research has been done on the normal population I would like to look at people who stutter (PWS) to see if there is a difference between the manner or degree to which emotional processing effects speech production.
