Welcome to my Web site!

My name is Rick Arenas.  I am a doctoral student in the department of Speech Pathology at the University of Iowa.  This website is meant to share some of my research interests and ideas, as well as provide access to some of the computer programs I have written.

FREE DAF/FAF SOFTWARE!!!

I have written a Delayed Auditory Feedback (DAF) and Frequency Altered Feedback (FAF) program that people can download and use for FREE.  Click on the link below to download a zip file that contains the program as well as the source code (it was written in Visual Basic).  The software is completely open source so feel free to use or modify the code in anyway.  In order to use the program you just have to click on the SpeechMonitor.exe file. There is no need to install anything.  Just make sure that the fmodex.dll file is in the same folder as the SpeechMonitor.exe file.  For more detailed information on using the program read the "SpeechMonitor Installation and Help.txt" file.

DOWNLOAD SpeechMonitor.zip

COMING SOON: a Windows Mobile version of the Speech Monitor so that you can use it on a PDA with a Bluetooth headset.

There is now a DAF/FAF group on yahoo that you can join to discuss your experiences with this software.  The purpose of the group is to get feedback from other people (both speech pathologists and users of DAF) about how they use it to facilitate therapy or to improve their speech in real world situations.  To join simply enter your email address and click the purple button below.
