Biography

PETER S. THORNE, MS, PhD is Professor of Toxicology in the Department of Occupational and Environmental Health and holds a secondary appointment as Professor in Environmental Engineering. He holds graduate degrees in Biomedical Engineering and Environmental Toxicology. Dr. Thorne is Director of the NIEHS-funded Environmental Health Sciences Research Center at The University of Iowa. He has a productive research laboratory engaged in studies of environmental risk factors for childhood asthma, inflammatory lung diseases, endotoxin and glucan-induced immunomodulation, molecular biology-based bioaerosol exposure assessment methodology, and exposure assessment for environmental cancer. Dr. Thorne’s curriculum vitae includes 110 peer-reviewed manuscripts, 15 book chapters and 160 scientific abstracts. He teaches graduate level courses on environmental health and human toxicology. He has served on a variety of review boards for scientific journals, government agencies, and academia and currently serves on the NIH National Advisory Environmental Health Sciences Council.
