Noah Henscheid

My name is Noah Henscheid, and I am a designer. I’m surprised to hear myself say those words. I came to the University of Iowa with an interest in photography, but I will graduate with a passion for design. It began with Design Fundamentals, a course required for all art majors. I have always been a detail-oriented person, but in that class I discovered a love for design that I never knew existed. After that semester, I continued to pursue my degree in photography, but all the while wondered, “what if?” I quickly found myself absorbed in looking at product and conceptual design websites during my spare time. I thought, “what if I had the tools to create and design?”

Then in the Fall semester of 2009, I took Problems in Design, and started my journey in becoming a designer. In this last year I have learned more about myself artistically than ever before. Until this point, as an artist I was just going through the motions, without stopping to ask, “Is this really the direction I want to be going?” But upon this wonderful discovery of design, I have seen with my eyes opportunities to improve things and make them better. I have learned about places across the globe that need the help of designers like me to make a difference. And I have gained the confidence I needed to begin designing. I now know what I want to do with my life, and that is very exciting.

My name is Noah, and I want to be a part of the solution to today’s problems. I have found this path with design, and I want to see where it leads me.
