SEARCHING FOR HANDICAP VANS ONLINE
People don't realize how difficult it is to find information about getting vehicles for the disabled. My mother has been disabled and in a wheelchair for my whole life, and she is able to do most things for herself, including driving. She really likes the freedom of coming and going as she pleases, and her handicap van has helped her hang onto that independence. She had been driving a van that my father had adapted for her several years ago, but then it died while she was driving it, and since it needed a new transmission, she decided that she would be better off to get a newer model. She started looking around and even checked for handicap vans online, but had very little luck. She heard from a friend that she should check out the handicap van news section, but they really didn't have any information and she knew that she really not only needed to get a vehicle, but needed to get one quickly. She asked me for my help, so I got online and after a few minutes I typed in a search for wheelchair vans orlando florida, and finally, there were some vans. Actually, not only some vans, but a nice selection. I called mom over and she was surprised at how reasonable some of them were. She had thought that she would have to wait for her tax refund to be able to pay for a new van, however, much to her surprise, she found a few that she could afford with the money that she already had put aside. She was really very excited at the idea of having her freedom back.
I really can't imagine feeling that you can't come and go as you please. For a handicapped adult, it must feel like being a child all over again. I have never personally had to face anything like this myself, and I really can't imagine it. Although, my mother has never seemed any different to me than any other mom that I know. She has never let her inability to walk stop her from being a good parent. She is truly an inspiration.
