Computer Numeric Cutting, also known as CNC, is basically a robotic arm with a specific tool attached to the end. CNC is extremely useful when precision is required. Creating multiple identical pieces that need to be assembled seamlessly can only be done with a computer's accuracy. Here at the School of Art we have a CNC router that can cut wood as well various types of plastic boards. Soon we will have a large and very versatile laser CNC cutting table. Designing for CNC machining requires proficiences in various vector design software programs like AutoCad, Rhino or even Illustrator. |
