We had an awesome weekend. We saw most of Shellie's family again and I think her parents might be getting sick of us. We also went out to her grandparents for Memorial Day which turned out to be fun. We partook in plenty of wedding activities and the entire event was perfect. Everything was planned out to the T and her parents are excellent at entertaining. The gifts for the male wedding party was Fat Tire Amber Ale and a cooler if that explains the wedding. It really was great to see friends and family and we only have a couple days before another wedding.

Well we got back from Shellie's brother's graduation in South Carolina. It was a great trip and interesting people. Worlds apart to say the least. I uploaded a lot of pictures of the trip which included some mountains, some North Carolina hippy action, and the graduation. Overall we had an awesome time, and it was great to see how Matt is doing. We leave tonight for Shellie's best friend's wedding. It's going to be another long weekend of imbibing, so I will be on top of my game.

Weekend Warrior

This weekend was great. I saw my family more this weekend than in probably 6 mos. Tony, Christy, and Christian came buy on Friday and I'll see the group again on Tuesday. I also went to go see my sister play in a soccer tournament in Norwalk Iowa. The group played ok, apparently not up to par with their usual level of play. The weather was gorgeous but I hadn't seen the light of day for awhile due to office so I liberally applied sunscreen 4 times throughout the day, but am still a lobster. My parents and I went out and ate two times in the Des Moines area. It was awesome especially just getting to talk. We ate at Buzzard Billy's which provided enough just to hold us over for 1 more soccer game. After the last soccer game we went to eat at the Hessenhaus in Des Moines. Very similar to the Essen Haus in Madison but just a little smaller. It was awesome, they had boots, German cuisine, and a polka band. It was awesome and I am trying to figure out how to bring a group from Iowa City to partake in festivities in Des Moines. After that bite to eat we went to El Baitshop a bar just across the street. It is a biker (as in bicycle) bar with an outdoor feel. It was fun just to be able to get outside as well but I truly am burnt. You would think 4 applications of sunblock would save me, but I can't imagine what would have happened without it. I tried to make it out to see the graduates when I got back to Iowa City, but so much sun and drink really took it out of me. I think I may be getting a little to old to make it all night long now. All in all it has been a great weekend and I still have one more day. Happy Mother's Day all you mothers.

Tony, Christy, and Christian came to Iowa City this weekend on their way to Christy's family. That kids is getting fat, there's no way to be nice about it, sometimes you just have to let them know. So I let him know that he was fat and then Tony and Christy asked Shellie and myself to be his godparents of Christian. With a name like Christian we have a lot to live up to. Especially with Shellie being in Minneapolis for a bachelorette party this weekend. We are also going to have to make sure we keep an eye on his weight. Two weeks in and he's already gained over a pound. He's closing in on 11 lbs. If he keeps at it he'll be over 150 lbs by the time he's in kindergarten.

Computer Update

Welcome to My Book

I have big plans for the laptop, specifically have it run parallels. Though using a mac makes everything so much easier, it just is not the cheapest. Running an old pc and a new macbook, there are a lot of incompatibilities and inconsistencies. Right now, I can access the mac from the pc but not the pc from the mac except for itunes. Don't ask me, I've gone through every possible theory. I was never able to access the mac using a ubuntu pc either, who knows what was going on. So if I want to watch a movie on the mac, i have to copy it to the ipod and then off to the mac. When I'm on the road, there is no music due to a smallish hard drive at 60 gb w/ over half going to photos right now. Printing has also been a big issue as I have to physically unplug the printer from the pc and directly to the mac. It would be significantly better to either have a server or possibly just a nas w/ a usb attached printer. I also need a bigger hard drive to cover some of the issues. To cover the first issue of running parallels I had to get more RAM. (FYI Vista and Office 2007 are like $15 total at our bookstore due to some campus agreement w/ Microsoft). Installing RAM and a new harddrive in a macbook is suppose to be extremely easy. There have been tons of how to's most ending in as little as 30 seconds. It took no time to take out the RAM but I had plenty of trouble after that. After installing and uninstalling and reinstalling 10 times I could not get the new RAM or the initial RAM to work. I finally read up on the apple support website which stated you had to press extremely hard. Needless to say it took a lot of flexing by both myself and the new RAM module but it finally worked. Hopefully any further updates go much smoother.

learning

one final exam on tuesday. otherwise everything has been prepared. research has been turned in with just minor editing left for case studies due later this week. skeletal muscle biology with emphasis on neural adaptations to strength, muscle plasticity with disuse and use, as well muscle injury specifically related to eccentric exercise is what the exam will focus on. i am of course attempting to postpone studying for as long as possible.
my student presented her research today and i thought she did a very good job. the epidemiologic data revealed injury rates/incidence in college and professional modern dancers. pretty specialized field and i think it went well.

Also check out the comments. What I find disturbing in this case is that the citizens of Sioux City have to pay for errors that could have been remedied which sound legal advice months ago. Hopefully this burden won't fall too hard back onto the people of Sioux City.

Da Vinci Code

Vatican Museum

So I read an article regarding the da vinci code, and how someone solved part of the mystery surrounding the church symbols. they note this revolves around music and it actually is a musical score.

the finders of the code have copyrighted the song, if what I read is true. My question is how is this possible. They didn't write the music. I understand the amount of work that must have went into solving this was huge, but what is going on here.
