Writely

this is a test of the writely. it is an online word processor, html editor. Think of it as a Microsoft Word online. The program is not located on your hard drive so you just log onto a website and compose and edit as you would with word or open office. It allows you to print, save, and all things you do with those programs but you can also publish directly, blog directly, and collaborate those works with other people online. i think it has a lot of promise as more and more applications move online in the world of web 2.0. i also think if google ends up pushing out gdrive, an online hard drive service, that many people think is in the pipeline, very few people will move towards spending hundreds every other year with microsoft. as i see it this is an extremely interesting proposition that is poised to help many people namely students. in my mind college students could be the most affected group. though college campuses often have microsoft agreements allowing for students to have cheap access to their programs either on their own computers or in computer labs there still must be the labor of installing and ensuring updates are made. i think if all goes well and enough publicity is made about the product there could be a mass exodus from locally installed programs to the new web 2.0 online services and applications.

Weddings

I asked Kristin, Dan's girlfriend, about weddings and she gave me her response. The weddings this weekend were great. They had very different feelings, both of them lovely. One very traditional and one very new. It was great to see everyone again and catch up with how their worlds outside of college has been. Notice I'm still living the dream.

Summer Camps see ya later. It's like a weight has been lifted off. And working with camps that weren't part of sports camps might not have been the best idea. But we are done with that now.
RAGBRAI was in Coralville last night so Shellie and I went to the Vine waiting for Lance to show up, unfortunately he never did. But our Leinie's honeweiss and berryweiss did.
We have a couple weddings today, one in Cedar Rapids and one in Cedar Falls. It is well into the 90's so I hope all the celebrants make it through the wedding and reception. Lot's of the old roommates will be there including Dan so I don't think we can make a guarantee that everyone will make it through.

lance's ride

Lance Armstrong is making his way through the Eastern part of Iowa today. He apparently is loving RAGBRAI and all that it stands for. His main reason for doing the tour so we have heard is to represent his Livestrong foundation and cancer research. On the other hand he has found out that the B in RAGBRAI may not actually be bike but beverage. He made his way through Iowa City last night, so the reports have it, placing him at the Summit. He says he'll do RAGBRAI next year. I have some words of wisdom exercise stimulates antidiuretic hormone (making you have to "go" less) and alcohol is a diuretic. Just trust your gut and know that there is some law of physiology that says you probably should go throughout the day and that although your body is roughly 65% fluid, that fluid is water not beer. Viva la RAGBRAI.

sometimes i wonder if my body can hang. i'm not that old but constantly working 13 hr shifts and being on call for less than you make at mcdonald's is starting to wear. i'm not sure a pay raise would make my body any more happy with me but it wouldn't make it any worse.

volleyball camps

playtime's over

i started volleyball camp today which should be extremely long. lots of kids needing attention and very limited people working. But in the end we will get through it. I just got some news that makes me realize life is too short to complain about work. I should cherish these moments and live them like my last. My thoughts and prayers go out to a prior roommate whose father just passed away this morning. My deepest condolences.

shirt

i went home to council bluffs with shellie this weekend. i actually thought we were going to another wedding but it turned out to be a family reunion. families are always alot of fun. plenty of food and refreshments and always interesting stories. it was 3 days of meeting the relatives and talking to family friends.
on sunday (aka today) shellie's grandpa had his 80th birthday party with 80 invited guests. many people from far and wide came to neola to celebrate his birthday. it was great to hear all of the stories in fact i think we should have had a roast. as a side note grandpa jerry's cousin liked my shirt (a university of iowa shirt) and wanted it. i was wearing it at the time and lets just say i didn't drive back to iowa city with it.

Once again congratulations to the new bride and groom. I didn't come away with a lot of great pictures, and something is happening to my .png files when uploading them to flickr (note Tony's Face) in my flickr album. I had a great time though i honestly think i may be running my body into the ground with all these weddings. Hope you two have fun in Boston.
On another note my aunt, uncle, and mom stopped on their way back from Chicago. He looks like he's doing very well after having a stint placed after some chest pain on his way to Tony's wedding. Good luck everyone with the rest of this week. I have a going away party for one of the girl's in my Athletic Training class who picked up a Grad Assisstant job in North Carolina.

Raspberry Days

Raspberry

Shellie and I went and picked raspberries yesterday afternoon. It was a great way to get out walking and into the nature. It looked like we weren't the first ones to get to my secret spot this season and we might have been a couple days late as they were pretty ripe. Yet, we still made out like bandits with a huge pail. Of course i suggested putting them on cereal and Shellie refused and went out and bought Dairy Queen soft serve. I also went and got my fade tightened for the upcoming weddings. I head to Sioux City tomorrow for the little brother's bachelor party and then the onslaught of weddings begin.

jazz

Jazz Hands
Originally uploaded by Danny..
well i finally missed another saturday in the park. i think i have only missed one before this one. i ended up sticking around iowa city, getting plenty of errands done in the 95 degree heat. iowa city had it's summer jazz festival today so we went and listened to the music and enjoyed the crowd and vendors until the rain started to sprinkle. it definitely wasn't saturday in the park but it looks to be improving year after year. iowa city is always so much more fun during the summer months with all the students away.
