Coko is out of bootcamp and was back in Iowa City for the weekend. He ends up back in California for some more training and then school for about a year and a half. Good time had by all but I think we are hurting a little bit. Iowa City is having its annual bike race this weekend and the Drake Relays are going on as well. It would be great but the rain has been unrelenting.

this weekend was good. i finally was able to take it a little slower. the research paper is over so i have cut myself a little slack. i still have yet to receive the results from boards. saturday was the black and gold competition for the junior recruits. i gave a nice recruiting speech and threw out some softball questions for the coaches and players to answer. shellie and i then went to the musco twilight meet. today i covered the usa eptc field hockey trials. we had about 20 some come with some coming as far as texas. i have yet to cover my homework for this week, but i'm hoping it covers itself.

fun in sioux city

sioux city was great. as was council bluffs, it's always great to see family even the outlaws. i was able to see tony's new house which is a whole lot of house. also for an update on the previous post. sorry all. it was meant to be a jab at matt, shellie's brother. matt thought the whole thing was sort of funny as it was shellie, the good kid, whose car was smashed and not his. all in all it was meant as a guilt trip for matt. for everyone else, sorry.

Poor Shellie. I think we need to start a "Buy Shellie a New Windshield Fund." You've heard of those other buysomeonea.... fund but this is for a good cause.

Shellie drove downtown to get a haircut and give me a ride. Unfortunately, Iowa City had a tornado. She had been so good with her bills and budgeting. She had justified a haircut after 7 months and found that perfect parking spot. It was too good to be true. We aren't sure if it was just the hail, but there was 2x4's and all sorts of debris surrounding the car. Luckily it was just the windshield. But that windshield is going to cost $558.25. There goes the whole deductible. Poor Shellie. Unfortunately, bad things happen to good people.

So without Shellie's complete approval I have begun a fundaiser with me giving $20 to start the fund. If you feel like giving please send your donations to

Updates

Storm wreaks havoc in downtown Iowa City: "A wave of storms blew through eastern Iowa tonight, with the worst of the storm striking the heart of Iowa City, knocking out power, flipping over cars and leveling buildings." (They forgot to mention Shellie's car)

Thousands fill downtown streets: "If it weren’t for the sheer wreckage caused by Thursday night’s storms, being downtown shortly after it passed was like being at Kinnick Stadium on a football Saturday."

Storm rips through Iowa City: "Strong storms that included tornadoes struck Eastern Iowa on Thursday night, with the worst weather hitting the heart of Iowa City and causing widespread damage."

Voices from the storm: "Press-Citizen reporters and photographers talked to folks on the street immediately following Thursday night’s storm. Shellie was right next to the Jeep Wrangler. Also note that the girl who came from a test was right next to Shellie. Luckily Shellie didn't have a test, though she would have aced it. "

Emergency message from President Skorton: "David Skorton issued an emergency message to the University of Iowa community late last night, cancelling classes and offering shelter for displaced students."

Tornadoes rip eastern Iowa: "Read full story for latest details."

Daily Iowan Pictures The black car with the firemen was two cars down from Shellie's.

I was working at Schaeffer, and after the storm I checked and we still had all our windows. Weird.

everyone knows its windy

weather was great today, high 70's, but i'm always amazed at the difference out at the field hockey pitch. (did you know their field is called a pitch). it is always 10-15 mph windier. i would venture a guess that the gusts were at least 35mph and a constant of at least 20mph. Even the all goals were being blown out of place.

Shellie made me eat brussel sprouts and they weren't half bad. she added alot of bad stuff though.
It included
1 tblsp olive oil
1/2 onion
1 tsp chicken boulion
12 fresh brussel sprouts

I made bacon wrapped pork chops. To complete the meal. Too bad the house still smelled like feet after the brussel sprouts.

safely in louisville

Finding Earth
Originally uploaded by Leorex.
well we made it to louisville safe and sound. we ran into hail, and were hampered by our drivers ability to drive well below the speed limit. its storming here with tornados all around us. i feel safe in a large building, but i can't say the rest of team who are from the coasts can say the same thing.

this one's for tony

I think tony might draw some inspiration and memories from this.

I forgot to mention that I added part of my google reader feeds in the sidebar. There is a lot you can do with the reader in sharing of your stories and in essence creating a river of news, I took the easy way out and have just shared some of the mroe recent stories that I starred. It is constantly changing, or at least changing as often as I find something more interesting than the day before.

my poor mobile

2.5.8.

Well my mobile finally broke. The hinge had been cracked for the last couple months and I opened it at CHA and lost the plastic piece underneath the basketball court. Luckily, that means it's only stuck open because the spring is now free to impose its will which is easily fixed with a rubber band. I also have to carry around the athletic training mobile, so i think i may just have to forward my calls to that phone if it's legal. I haven't asked yet nor have i done it, but a wise man once said it is better to do the deed and beg for forgiveness later than to not do the deed at all. Another wise man once said, if they can't take a joke... I can't finish that one. Amazingly enough all the reports I have read lately, had this phone broken in about 1 yr to a year and a half so i think I came out alright. It's been a little over 2 yrs which means I am in for a free upgrade.

Now I just have to decide which phone. The only thing set in stone is the brand, motorola. I am just not sure which phone, I have been struggling because a new version of the v3c (razr) coming out but have heard that these are prone to breakage as well. I think I might stick with an e815 despite its size because of durability. One of the reasons I want to stick with motorola is because my next computer is going to be a mac and it offers the best compatibility (I could go on and on about why I am choosing a mac but won't) But if anyone has any insight to these phones or any others let me know.

We travel to louisville, ky this weekend for field hockey. Hopefully the weather is better than last year (freezing rain) and there are no injuries. Last year we were sent to the football stadium to shower. My lockerroom was the one that Nick Lachey used for a dressing room the night before. I plan on taking some pictures and posting them when I get back. I still haven't put up the portland pictures on flickr partly because I don't want to move off some of the of the better pictures on my flickr site, but also am trying to decide if i should just create a new account there. If anyone is willing to upgrade me to a pro account, I wouldn't be opposed :)

Just a quick note, I'm sure portland is a great city, I just never got to see any of its great sides. A word of advice, avoid the Ramada Inn Airport. It was pretty seedy. One of the couples had to take the shuttle with me to the airport not by choice, but because their car was stolen out of the parking lot. But I have been told by the overwhelming majority it's a great town, I just may have to give it another shot someday. As long as I passed the boards anyway.
