Technology for Soccer Refs

Adidas is teaming up in the technology dept to help out this year’s under-17 world soccer championship. A microchip embedded in the soccer ball will transmit a signal to a watchlike device on the referee’s wrist, generating a beep or vibration whenever a goal is scored. This is most definitely in response to an incident in a match on January 4 in which England’s Tottenham was denied a clear goal against Manchester United when goalkeeper Roy Carroll dropped the ball behind the line while officials were apparently looking elsewhere. Damn UK football hooligans, come on now what ever happened to "Cheers mate, Bob's your uncle?"

New pens for a new age?

Check out these new pens being styled by Pacific Writing Instruments for better ergonomics. I don't see any research backing it up but interesting nonetheless.

What's on W's playlist

We all want to know what is on George W's playlist. I see he has some Creedence. I'm going to take a guess and say he probably doesn't have Fortunate Son.

USB Battery

We (Shellie and I) created a usb-battery. should power any small mobile device that uses a 5v charge.
the pieces were simple, a female usb port-i used a usb-extension cable and cannibalized the female port. a 7805 voltage regulator for $1.50, a 9 volt battery and a battery clip. wired using only the ground (black)and power (red) wires and following the diagram for the voltage regulator. i then hooked up the other me male usb portion to the female portion to the multimeter making sure i had 5v. horrible soldering job, if i do say so myself.

next project is a 12v firewire battery for the ipod.
