Writely

this is a test of the writely. it is an online word processor, html editor. Think of it as a Microsoft Word online. The program is not located on your hard drive so you just log onto a website and compose and edit as you would with word or open office. It allows you to print, save, and all things you do with those programs but you can also publish directly, blog directly, and collaborate those works with other people online. i think it has a lot of promise as more and more applications move online in the world of web 2.0. i also think if google ends up pushing out gdrive, an online hard drive service, that many people think is in the pipeline, very few people will move towards spending hundreds every other year with microsoft. as i see it this is an extremely interesting proposition that is poised to help many people namely students. in my mind college students could be the most affected group. though college campuses often have microsoft agreements allowing for students to have cheap access to their programs either on their own computers or in computer labs there still must be the labor of installing and ensuring updates are made. i think if all goes well and enough publicity is made about the product there could be a mass exodus from locally installed programs to the new web 2.0 online services and applications.
