My computer is old. 6 years to be exact. We have a love hate relationship. I love it when it works, I hate it when it doesn't. When I bought it, it was a middle to high end computer. That was 6 years ago. I started cleaning up all my email on sunday and just generally a spring cleaning. I copied all my thumb drives to my hard drive and input all my contacts from last semester. I had outlook all updated. Then my computer crashed. And crashed, and crashed and crashed. A BSOD and a restart has been a daily occurrence for a while. My video card is old, and there are no drivers out there any more, so I sort of just got used to the restarts and a made sure to save documents frequently. So I freaked out. My last major update was in 2004 so I had backups cd's from then. Unfortunately, my backup from then had been on a university drive no longer accessible. I also don't have a dvd burner and my cd burner is a $50 replacement. Luckily, I think/hope after 3 days I have my documents/contacts/calendar/photos backed up. I had to use an ipod, cd-r's, and some network tools but I'm backed up onto the computer I had made for shellie. It's running ubuntu so I'm feeling a little safer. I don't have a back up of my music except for on my ipod so I'm hoping to last just a bit longer.

Though it the computer will probably die within the month, I am using synergy right now. It's a keyboard and mouse switch similar to a KVM switch. What that means is I have two video monitors in front of me, one running xp and one running ubuntu. I use one keyboard for both computers and one mouse. I just move my mouse over to either screen and that is the computer to use. It copies and pastes and does all that cool jazz. It's actually pretty cool. I just wish I didn't have to use it.

So, the plan is to get a new laptop. A new macbook, it will run mac and windows and will be a lot more reliable. It was time for an upgrade but I was hoping to make it until work had started. But I can't complain too much, I have all 6 years of photos, documents, and data. It could be worse right?!
