Standards-Based Education and Accountability (click to see flyer)

This course is designed to provide educators with an understanding of basic concepts in standards-based education, educational measurement, and assessment, particularly as they apply to a standards-based education model. Students will be introduced to formal, informal and performance assessment measures for the K-12 curriculum and how to align them with their district’s instructional, grading, and curricular goals.

 

Course topics will include: Academic content standards, K-12 articulation, the Iowa Core Curriculum, conducting alignment studies, standard setting to create cut scores, using standardized test results to evaluate academic programs, decision-making using test results (especially grading and instructional decisions), building district assessments,  the use of formative assessments to guide instruction, high stakes testing and teaching to the test, universal design of instruction and assessment, and special considerations in various content areas (especially literacy assessment and interdisciplinary curriculum).
