In 2008, I received my B.Sc. degree in Physics from Ataturk University in Erzurum, Turkey. After graduation, I attended ESL classes at the University of Delaware. In 2010, I joined the research group of Prof. Onel and Prof. Nachtman in the Physics Department at the University of Iowa. I completed my M.Sc. degree in 2012 and I expect to finish my Ph.D. work on the Compact Muon Solenoid (CMS) experiment by August 2016.

I have actively participated in both hardware and software studies for the CMS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) as a graduate student since 2010. I have gained extensive experience in detector development while I have carried out research on CMS upgrade studies. I have been actively involved in all stages of the experimental research from developing detectors to the analysis and interpretation of data for both Phase I and II CMS upgrade studies. Some of the detectors I have been involved in are the CMS Hadron Forward Calorimeter (HF), Secondary Emission Ionization Calorimeters, Particle Identification Detectors, and Shashlik Electromagnetic Calorimeter.

My current physics analysis project is a search for heavy Majorana neutrinos in the like-sign dilepton plus jets signature at CMS. The discovery of neutrino oscillations has confirmed the non-zero mass of the Standard Model neutrinos. With this confirmation, the search for a mechanism to explain the non-zero mass of SM neutrinos has become popular among the accelerator experiments such as LHC at CERN. There are number of models explaining the mass neutrinos including see-saw mechanism. In this model, a light neutrino generated with a corresponding heavy neutrino for each flavor and the model leads to lepton number violation processes resulting in same-sign dilepton events. I focus on the dielectron channel but contribute to the dimuon and e-mu channel analysis as well.

This wide range of research experience has substantially contributed to my understanding of solid research in experimental particle physics.
