The Icehouse
"Doors open 8:00,music stops when you do"
During the summer of 1985 I was lucky enough to become involved in a very loose, very organic DIY music and booking cooperative in Fayetteville, Arkansas. Although we were shut down and kicked out of the warehouse where we first started hosting shows after approximately 8 months, we managed to continue booking regional and national independent bands in bars like Lily's (where, according to local columnist John Adams "the punk rockers and the bikers mixed together like oil and water") for another two or three years. We also occupied the abandonded Brass Monkey Club, in the basement of the recently demolished Mountain Inn. During this time we learned alot about music, art, performance, work, and ourselves. I will be posting pictures and stories relating to the Icehouse (and independent music in Fayetteville 1985-1989, and myriad other concerns that spin off of that central focus) on this page from time to time as part of an ongoing documentary project. Anyone who has anything they would like to contribute please contact me at eric-d-johnson@uiowa.edu. I am interested in oral * written history: testimonies, remembrances, etc. as well as posters, photos, recordings, and any other artifacts, or material.
