From Mission Network: Akiko Aratani & Ray Epp & their children live & work at Menno Village, an agricultural initiative of the Japanese Mennonite churches that seeks to care for the land, promote just farming practices & grow healthy food.  Pray that through their ministry people may grow to understand better the abundant life that Jesus gives.

All women from the church are invited to a bridal shower for Carmen Schrock and Joe Fernau on Monday, Oct. 5 at 7:00 p.m.  Carmen and Joe are registered at Yotty’s, Target, Kohl’s and Bed, Bath and Beyond.

 

All 6th, 76th, & 8th grade students are invited to a “pizza night” on Oct. 8 in conjunction with two athletic events going on at IMS.  There will be a cross country meet & volleyball match taking place; please come & enjoy the activities, grab some pizza, and learn more about IMS! 

 

IMS’ junior class will be preparing & serving the annual Pork Supper on Sat., Oct. 10, from 4:30 – 8:00 p.m. in the gym.  Proceeds will go towards their class trip in the fall of 2010.  Tickets are available from any IMS junior or by contacting the school office.  Students from our congregation are Gretchen Geyer, Landon Slabaugh, Emma Yoder.

 

Crooked Creek Christian Camp needs volunteers to do small paint, putty, stain and varnish projects at Shepherd’s Inn.  Can you donate an hour or two?  Give the camp a call at 319-653-3611 to volunteer.  Thank you.

 

Shepherd’s Inn building continues at Crooked Creek Christian Camp and we’d love to show you the progress that has been made.  Join us on Sun., Oct. 11 from 2-4 p.m. for an open house and tour (complete with refreshments).  While you are here, swing over to the Activity Center for Open Gym time from 3-5 p.m. We look forward to seeing you at camp!

 

All Senior Citizens are invited to Crooked Creek Christian Camp for Senior Day on October 8. Join us at 9:30 a.m. to hear Conference Minister, Tim Detweiler, speak about “Faith Formation for the Lifelong Journey:  developing a spirituality to sustain ourselves on the long road.” After a potluck lunch, you can choose to stay at camp and hear Mike Zahs’ presentation, “Feed Sacks and Flour Sacks” or take a bus tour of the Barn Quilts of Washington County. Hesston College Bel Canto Singers and Wind Ensemble will present a program entitled, Our Lives Are in Your Hands Monday, October 19th at 7:30 PM at First Mennonite Church, 405 Myrtle Ave, Iowa City.   They will perform a concert featuring an eclectic repertoire spanning renaissance to modern works. Featured composers include Giovanni Palestrina, Ward Swingle, and Felix Mendelssohn.  Both ensembles are conducted by Bradley Kauffman.  

 

The First Responder’s Fall Blood Drive will be Tuesday and Wednesday, October 13 & 14, 2-7:00 PM at Kalona United Methodist Church hall.  This is in coordination with the University of Iowa DeGowin Blood Center.  Free Cholesterol screening and Rewards Points will be offered to all successful donors.

 

The Washington Mennonite Church is hosting a Dinner Theater entitled, “How Can We Be Silent?”   You are invited to attend the Dinner Theater on Oct. 29, 30, and 31, at 6:30 p.m. at the Crooked Creek Christian Camp Pavilion.  Brochures with registration information are available under the mailboxes.  Mail in reservations as soon as possible.  Seats will be filled in the order in which reservations are received.  Proceeds, above expenses, will go to support the missions programs of Washington Mennonite.

Today, September 27

·         JPOG invites you to a video documentary and conversation with local “Sea-going Cowboys” who helped care for horses and cattle that were transported to Europe after World War 2.  This effort was the beginning of the Heifer Project.  Join us at East Union at 6:00 p.m. for a finger foods potluck and conversation or at 7:00 pm for our program and discussion.
