Global Concerns

From Mission Network: Today concludes a three-day consultation, “And you welcomed me: A consultation of the people of God on Immigration” in Waxahachie, Texas.  Pray for church leaders returning to their communities to implement Bible-based responses to immigration dilemmas.


 

Eddie and Darla (Knepp) Trejo are proud to announce the birth of their daughter Stella Magdalena, who was born on September 11th in Melbourne, Australia. Stella is welcomed home by older sister Lucia.

 

Thanks so much for your thoughtfulness.  We enjoyed very much to be among East Union people again.  It was like coming home for Edna and I.  We miss you and think of the rewarding time we spent at East Union.  You are constantly on our prayers.  East Union was the highlight of our experience in our ministry.  May God bless our and thank you.  P.S.  The check will be put to good use.

Parents of College Students: If you want your students to receive The Mennonite during the school year, let Joyce know by Sept. 27.  Cost is $22.00 per subscription.

 

Please note that all are welcome to attend chapels at IMS at any time.  Typical chapels are from 9:46 – 10:06 a.m. daily, with the exception of Tuesdays, when students meet in small groups.  Contact the school with questions regarding specific chapels.  The theme for the school year is The Echo the World Needs to Hear.  This week’s chapels include Chris Nachtigall sharing his faith story on Monday, the 21st; because of in-services, small groups, and Work Days, there will be no other chapels during this week.

 

All 6th, 76th, & 8th grade students are invited to a “pizza night” on Oct. 8 in conjunction with two athletic events going on at IMS.  There will be a cross country meet & volleyball match taking place; please come & enjoy the activities, grab some pizza, and learn more about IMS!

 

IMS’ junior class will be preparing & serving the annual Pork Supper on Sat., Oct. 10, from 4:30 – 8:00 p.m. in the gym.  Proceeds will go towards their class trip in the fall of 2010.  Tickets are available from any IMS junior or by contacting the school office.  Students from our congregation are Gretchen Geyer, Landon Slabaugh, Emma Yoder.

 

Crooked Creek Christian Camp needs volunteers to do small paint, putty, stain and varnish projects at Shepherd’s Inn.  Can you donate an hour or two?  Give the camp a call at 319-653-3611 to volunteer.  Thank you.

 

A person is never too old to learn something new or make a friend! Crooked Creek Christian Camp invites you to attend Senior Day on October 8 at 9:30 a.m. Join us to hear guest speaker and conference minister, Tim Detweiler, and enjoy a potluck lunch. New this year, in the afternoon guests can take an optional bus tour of the barn quilts in Washington County. Call the camp to reserve your spot or for more information.

 

The Washington Mennonite Church is hosting a Dinner Theater entitled, “How Can We Be Silent?”   You are invited to attend the Dinner Theater on Oct. 29, 30, and 31, at 6:30 p.m. at the Crooked Creek Christian Camp Pavilion.  Brochures with registration information are available under the mailboxes.  Mail in reservations as soon as possible.  Seats will be filled in the order in which reservations are received.  Proceeds, above expenses, will go to support the missions programs of Washington Mennonite.
