Global Concerns

From Mission Network: Pray for Cindy & Tim Buhler, MMN workers, as they apply for work permits so they may return to Macau in late July.  In the past, this process sometimes has caused difficulties for mission workers.


 

Church Council has approved using a calling service for announcements, cancellations, etc.  Please fill out the gold form in your mailboxes today and place them in the secretary’s box as soon as possible.  Thank you.
 
If your college student is planning on attending a Mennonite College next year, please let Joyce know by March 1.  Thanks.
 
Hey Kids!  If you collected your coins for canoes and kayaks at Crooked Creek Christian Camp with the devotional calendar in January, send your donation to the camp by the end of February.  So far we can pay for 2.5 canoes with a goal of 9.  Thanks for your help!
 
The Wellman Mennonite MYF is hosting their annual Mush Fry on March 9 from 11:30 to 1:00. Everyone is invited to this old fashioned meal of fried mush, tomato gravy, liverwurst, whole hog sausage and scrambled eggs. Proceeds go toward the MYF youth convention expenses and mission projects.
 
If anyone who is not an advocate but would like to volunteer to take a turn in the nursery during the worship service let Joyce know so she can get you on the next schedule.
 
Need a warm place with lots of laughter in the midst of this cold and snow?  Make your reservation for a seat or table at the West Union MYF dinner theater—The Not Quite So Late Show—March 29 at 6:30.  Call Donna Yoder at 656-2160, or email gdyoder@kctc.net before all chairs are full.  Suggested donation of $20 per person/$15 for students.   
 
MMA College Scholarships:  Students can apply for financial assistance through the MMA College Scholarship program.  Each year MMA offers up to 36 scholarships to students who are members of a congregation with an MMA advocate.  For details visit www.mmaynow.com. Applications are due Feb. 28, 2008.
 
Eastern Iowa Mennonite Women’s Spring Retreat is scheduled for Saturday, April 12, 8:30 AM – 12 PM. The theme this year is “Reaching Out to Friends around the World”. Speakers are Holly Blosser Yoder, Sherry Schrock and Anita Swartzendruber.  More details will be coming later.
 

Family, Friends, Neighbors, Coworkers….Is someone you know hurting from Divorce? Tell him or her about DivorceCare, a special weekly seminar and support group for persons who are separated or divorced. Sessions are starting Tuesday, March 25 at 7:00 pm at First Mennonite Church of Iowa City.
