I am an Assistant Professor of Philosophy and core faculty in the Interdisciplinary Graduate Program in Neuroscience at the University of Iowa. My primary areas of research are philosophy of mind, philosophy of cognitive science & neuroscience, and metaphysics, with media ethics and neuroethics in addition. I've been working in all of them simultaneously (see my research page) while examining the metaphysical foundations of cognitive science, in particular the ontological commitments implied by the pursuit of a mechanistic explanation of mind. I teach in these areas as well as in aesthetics, philosophy of language and philosophy of science.

I’m also co-host for the podcast channel New Books in Philosophy, part of the New Books Network. My co-host Robert Talisse and I invite you to listen in!
