Welcome to Amber Griffioen's Homepage
I am a PhD Candidate and teaching assistant in the Philosophy Department at The University of Iowa. Currently, I am writing my dissertation on the topic of self-deception. I hope to demonstrate that not only is self-deception possible, it is also (at least in some cases) both motivated and intentional. I also intend to explore just what it is that makes self-deception irrational, and to examine whether all cases of self-deception represent a moral (as opposed to a merely epistemic) failure.
My research interests include philosophy of
action, practical rationality, problems of irrationality, value theory,
medieval philosophy, and philosophy of religion. As far as historical
figures go, I am very interested in doing future work on the philosophy
of Abelard, Ramus, Kant, Kierkegaard, Heidegger, and Sartre. Click on the links below to find out more about me and my work.
